About

All my pieces are individually hand made using stoneware or paper clay. For decoration I use underglazes and oxides. These are sometimes enhanced with non-ceramic pigments.

My subjects are animals and people. I try to create not only a physical representation of the subject, but also to capture something of the personality. My own experience of people is expressed in my approach to human subjects, whereas my encounters with animals are, of course, more limited. While I try to convey the essential nature of the animal, there is inevitably a degree of transference of human personality and emotion.

I am based in Newport, South Wales and took up pottery after early retirement from teaching. Though largely self-taught, I have learned much from the classes and demonstrations organised by South Wales Potters, of which I have been a member for many years.
